Antique Clocks

The traditional values of horology were as far from the mind of Erhard Junghans in 1861 as the manufacture of portable timepieces, whether for the pocket or the wrist. The purpose of the "Uhrenfabriken Gebriider Junghans AG" then settled in Schramberg, Wiirttemberg, was mainly the produce of low-cost components for clocks of the common Black Forest range.

Erhard's projects depended on the skills of his brother, Franz Xaver, who had emigrated to America in 1845, for he had made him an appealing offer: to purchase advanced equipment as well as tools abroad and then to become an associate in Schramberg.

In 1862 the brothers were together in Schramberg with the machinery. Before long the order book was displaying the favorable popularity of Junghans goods. The following stage was the manufacturing of finished clocks in accordance to American procedures of division of labor.

In 1870, when Erhard Junghans breathed his last, 100 workers finalized about 100 Junghans Clocks per day. There after, every road led to a persistent growth of the product range and later on had at times, over 3000 employees, the largest clock manufacturer in the world.
