Antique Clocks

Gustav Edward Becker (born May 2, 1819 in Oels, Silesia, † September 17, 1885 in Berchtesgaden) was a German watchmaker and founder of the Gustav Becker Clocks brand.

He learned the watchmaker's craft in Silesia and expanded his knowledge to watch makers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The trips enabled him to hone his craft and to develop into an outstanding master watchmaker.

Gustav Becker presented his clocks on the Silesian industrial exhibition in 1852 and won a gold medal. The cross shape of this medal was later influenced the work of boards and to anchor near the Gustav Becker trademark.

The initially produced simple pendulum clocks in 1860 gave way to more expensive clocks decorated with ornate and carved boxes and high-quality works. Production increased dramatically in the years that followed, in 1875 the production exceeded the 300,000 mark made clocks. Becker was able to win prizes at exhibitions worldwide, such as London, Paris, Sydney, Melbourne, Berlin and Amsterdam.

A Gustav Becker clock is well-known for their excellent craftsmanship and the Gustav Becker Clocks brand on a timepiece is going to make it more expensive compared to others antique clocks of alike quality. These clocks are collectible works of art that range from very simple to elaborately ornate. The casework often incorporated hand carving. While Gustav Edward Becker only lived until 1885, clocks bore his brand until 1935.
